12 February 1828. Zulu attack on Voortrekkers after execution of Piet Retief. The Zulus were repelled. Restored Voortrekker house on site. Follow Alfred Street in Estcourt, past quarry, and across stream. Memorial at fork in dirt road. Open daily.

17 February 1838. Young Martinus Oosthuysen courageously saved three Voortrekker families from Zulu attack. On a private farm between Estcourt and Mooi River. Arrange visit at Fort Durnford.

Site of three day attack by Zulus on Voortrekkers' laager (13-15 February 1838). Actual site is now beneath Wagendrift Dam. Diorama explains battle, shows Voortrekkers' battle tactics. From Estcourt follow signs to Wagendrit Dam.

iThaleni Battlefield - Mgungundlovu Area.
April 1838 Voortrekker Commando ambushed and Piet and Dirkie Uys killed. Main body of Commando escaped. (Vlugkommando).

Blood River Battlefield & Ncome Zulu Cultural Museum - Dundee Area Tel 034 632 1695.
16 December 1838. Voortrekkers defeated Zulu Army. 64 full size replica bronze wagons set in laager on site. Off R33 between Dundee and Vryheid. Entrance fee payable. Interpretation centre, Tea Room, and toilets on site. Open daily except Christmas Day and Good Friday 08:00 to 16:30.

Piet Retief and his party executed on orders from King Dingane. Memorial near Royal Residence, Mgungundlovu. Off R34 near Ulundi. Open daily 9:00 to 16:00. Entry Fee emaKhosini/Opathe Heritage Park.

Ophathe Battlefield 27th Dec 1838 – Ulundi Area, Part of Emakhosini Opathe Park
Tricked into believing they could recover much of their looted livestock the Trekkers were lured into a trap by the Zulu Army and seven Trekkers and seventy retainers were killed.
