Desmond Armstrong (Des) has for over 30 years been closely associated with the history, heritage and culture of South Africa.
During the course of these years Desmond has accompanied numerous groups to the Battlefields of South Africa, including Corporate tours for overseas visitors as well as producers from BBC Radio and Television, Northern Ireland.
Born, raised and educated in the Northern Irish Province of Ulster, Des is regarded today as a specialist in Irish, South African History.
In addition to battlefields experiences Des specialises in tours that are uniquely focused and developed around ‘group’ needs. These would incorporate and include where appropriate the following:
- Classic Car Tours
- Church History and Architecture
- Unique experiences in the Great and Klein (small) Karoo Region
- South Africa’s Steam Heritage
- Musical Events
- Researching aspects of Irish/South African Family History
Desmond is a registered tour guide and currently serves on the Board of Trustees, Talana Museum, Dundee South Africa.
I am involved with a Tour company and we are busy contacting Bowls Clubs in the UK with a view to them visiting our country – I am a bowler. I am also a medal collector and am considering putting together an itinerary for interested UK collectors to visit Boer War and Zulu War battlesites. Would you be interested in being our ‘guide’? Also, do you know of any other ‘organisations’ involved in this initiative?…and what are your rates for such an involvement?
