107 | This is the “Valley of the Kings” and within the park you will find the burial places of a number of early Zulu Kings and the “Spirit of Emakhosini” monument. There is also Mgungundlovu, the Royal Residence of King Dingane and kwaMatiwane where Voortrekker leader Piet Retief and his men were killed and subsequently buried. There is an excellent orientation centre with an audio visual display where the history of the region and the Zulu nation can be studied. To visit and obtain a detailed interpretation a visit to the Spirit of eMakhosini monument is recommended. An on-site guide will meet visitors and accompany them to the monument.

There is little on site information and the use of a Guide is recommended to enhance the experience of the site.

  • I would like to enquire about Bongoza who was so tactical in battle against the Boers. Beside, the mention of his name on this battle, there’s no further mention of his name. Our forefathers told us about Bongoza who was a Zulu warrior and they moved from kwaDumisa in Umzinto area to Ntlangwini and Mfundweni areas of Umzimkulu. We only know that his wife Mambundwini left Umzinto with her sons and we are not sure where Bongoza was during this time and where he ended. . We know his son who was popularly known as Nbalimatshe ended up moving to Flagstaff in EC whe he left many family members and moved to areas of Idutywa and Willowcale as inyanga where he ended.
.France, Roma and few of his half brothers remained in areas of Umzimkulu up to date.

Some say he was known as belonging to Ngcobo clan, yet we are the Dlaminis and not sure whether his mother was not married and used her mother’s clan. Kindly help us to have a closer about this hero.
