The Zulus attacked the Voortrekker laagers in the Bushman’s River area after the execution of Piet Retief and his men but were repelled. Restored Voortrekker house on site.
Follow Alfred Street in Estcourt, across the Little Bushmans River and past quarry. Memorial in the veld near the entrance to the farm house. Private property but owner has no objection to bona fide visitors.
There is no on site information and the use of a Guide is recommended to enhance the experience of the site.
